A Birthday weekend: lunch at Beaverbrook's The Garden House & Greenwich market

I love any excuse to celebrate. Yes I know it’s all a money making scheme, but like with everything in life it’s all about what you make of it. Holidays, social events and birthdays are all just excuses to get together with loved ones. Mother’s day, Father’s day, Valentine’s day, Christmas, you name it (although Halloween is one holiday I have never understood. But now as a mother I have a feeling it will be one I may have to partake in).

I’ve always wanted to visit Beaverbrook hotel, and I’m keen to be venturing out of London a lot more often when possible (fingers crossed for a Christmas in the British countryside in December). As my birthday came round this year, I toyed with the idea of a family picnic in the countryside, and that long winded research of trying to find a place led to a booking at The Garden House for lunch. It was reminiscent of The Stables at The Grove; English garden, rustic decor and their own allotment with freshly grown vegetables used in their dishes.

This place is truly stunning. There is enormous amount of land, so much so that to go to the Beaverbook house from the restaurants you need a buggy. And as you drive up to the house the building is breathtaking; very Downtown Abbey-esque indeed. Not surprisingly, unlike London hotels which you can waltz into and lounge in the lobby, that is not possible here. Make a booking in advance even if it is just for tea, and then lounge away…
